How to Style Leather Pants + Where to Buy Leather Pants

October 26, 2020

Ross Geller didn’t do it right but he had the right idea (at least when it comes to fashion in fall/winter 2020). I guess he really wasn’t appreciated in his own time (that’s a Ross playing the keyboard reference for any non-Friends fans).

Leather pants are a trend that doesn’t seem to be going away any time soon! But, knowing how to style them and the best places to buy them is key; take a fashion stylist’s advice and don’t end up like Ross 😉

5 Ways to Style Leather Pants

1. With a sweater and pointed-toe booties.

Keep in mind high rise is very in right now and a lot more flattering when it comes to leather pants, so a cropped sweater like this that hits right above the waist is a good piece to have. If you’re wearing leather leggings, opt for a longer sweater. This look also goes well with cargo style leather pants.

2. With a tank top under any button up shirt/cardigan and stilettos

You can also button up the blouse for a different look, tucked, or untucked. If you’re wearing leather leggings, untucked is better.

3. With a sweatshirt/t-shirt and sneakers for a more casual look.

This look is also great with leather leggings or combat boots!

4. With a turtle neck and stilettos for the office (add a coat or blazer)

5. With a velvet (or any) bodysuit for a night out with the girls

5 Places to Buy Faux Leather Pants

  1. Aritzia
The pants in the photos above are the Wilfred Free Melina Pants (still going strong since last year). I’ve also had their Wilfred Free Daria Pants (faux-leather leggings) for 4 years and they’re also still going strong despite all the washes and wear. The prices are a lot higher but if it’s quality you’re looking for you’ll find it here. Personally, I find these to be the most comfortable and flattering due to the soft material.

Fit: Their size guide online is very accurate – if you’re in-between, go down a size because they stretch (especially the leggings).

  2. Dynamite
Their Faux Leather Pants are $60 and the Naomi Faux Leather Leggings are $45, if you’re looking for something similar to the styles mentioned above that are more affordable.

Fit: They have an accurate size guide online with directions on how to measure – go down a size in leggings if in-between since they stretch.

  3. Zara
Zara has many different styles of Faux leather pants and they’re also very affordable. I find the sizing to fit a little bigger (so if you want something more relaxed, opt for these). The most popular styles, similar to the ones mentioned above, seem to be the Faux Leather Pants (#4369/270) ($60) and the Faux Leather Leggings (#7102/260) ($40). They even have a style made to fit a little bigger like the Faux Leather Mom Fit Pants. ($50)

Fit: A little more relaxed, as mentioned above. Refer to their online size guide and keep in mind the styles seem to run a little bigger. If you’re in-between sizes, go down if you want them tight (or opt for option #1 or #2 instead).

  4. H&M
If leather pants are something you want to try for a trend once and want to spend the least amount of money possible, this is probably the place for you. They have very affordable styles similar to the ones mentioned above like the Faux Leather Pants ($35) and Faux Leather Leggings ($30).

Fit: According to the reviews, they seem to fit true to size. They don’t have a size guide but the reviews and close-up shots are very detailed. Their online return policy is also good (but you can’t return in store, you have to ship them back – they provide a return label for you).

  5. RW&CO
They have styles that are very suitable for the office, like their High-Waisted Tapered Faux Leather Pants ($54 on sale) – such a cute trouser style and the material isn’t shiny, so they can be good for an office environment with a blouse or turtle neck tucked in. They also have High-Waisted Faux Leather Leggings ($48 on sale).

Fit: True to size – they also have a size guide with measuring instructions online.
